I heard Jesmyn Ward talk about Salvage the Bones last night at the AWP.  She read from the novel, starting with a few pages before this one, choosing to read or sing or narrate from the entire 11th day.  Her voice and her story struck me.  Here is a reading from the National Book Award winning novelist.
